While others enjoy the whimsy I LOVE a not-so-obvious message

My son was delighted while we read this book. Tickled by fantastic illustrations and disgusting delicacies, he enjoyed the book from front to back. I used it as an opportunity to teach him about entrepreneurship, a not-so-obvious theme underlying the story. While others' reviews have pointed out that the moral is about helping others, I believe it goes deeper than that. It is about Pinky Pig taking charge, and doing what is required to not only save her job, but to help grow the business she works for. She performs market research (asking others what they'd like), planning and advertising (distributing the new menus in places her customers were most likely to frequent), and even delivering the desired product to the masses, which nets the business (and her personally) financial success, and loyal customers galore. A great book with a moral? Yes. And a fantastic one about self-reliance at that.

Create your own buggy toppings!

After the kids enjoy the story, you can brainstorm ways to make your own toppings for hamburgers. Maybe chow mein noodles would be good as "pineneedles" for a porcupine burger, and "worms lightly fried" to go on Mole's burger could be some long strings of onions. Kids might also love picking up the challenge of illustrating their new menu, just like Pinky Pig,using their best artistic skills and imaginations. Who says you can't indulge in cooking up reading?

A fun treat for the family...

What a fun book to read with your children. The illustrations are wonderful, as is the story itself. My children ask for it over and over again....

It will make you laugh

I love this book as much as my children. We first came across it in the library then we had to make it part of our home library. It rhymes all the way through about crazy things. You won't regret getting this book! A++++++++++

A Pig Selling Hamburgers!

Hamburger Heaven is a whimsical delight. The characters are inventive and both adults and children will enjoy the 1950s diner setting. The story will definitely make children laugh as well as evoke a few "ew, gross" responses to the funny burgers. This is a great story to read to your kids and one they will probably be excited to learn to read on their own. Very cute!
