Solid and comforting

I have an out-of-print second-hand copy of this book. It's a true pleasure to read any day of the year. Like having a country farmer next door, chatting with you across the fence. Borland writes a mini-essay for each day of the year. Whether you're a nature-lover, weather freak, eco-hippie, it does'nt matter; Borland sums up a typical day from a naturalist's point of view. A good companion book to Edwin Way Teale's "A Walk Through The Year". Great for bedside reading every night. Added Oct. 2007 - Borland's little essays, published in the New York Times for many years, now read like weather-blogs today. If you like reading almanacs, you'll like these daily observations. One other thing: Borland was living in Vermont when he wrote these, so autumn and winter, naturally came a little earlier than for most folks living in the Northeast.
