I am very impressed with the book Gutless Neglect. It was well written and easy reading. It is hard to comprehend hour our Social Security could have gotten in such a bad situation but with reading this book, it explains a lot of what has happened to cause this situation. The problem itself is something that I was unaware of and I suppose most people like me are not aware of the extent of the problem. The CD is well done and really good to listen to as it covered the situation of our Social Security problem in a clear concise way that was easy to listen to and understand. Also the website is very informative and has everything in it to learn about these important issues and how to send our leaders our comments. I admire the time and effort that has gone into informing the public of this problem and hope through your efforts of bringing the situation before our leaders that it will be dealt with and taken care of for our children, grandchildren and future generation's sake.
This book is a shocker...

As a father, grandfather and great grandfather and a retired businessman, reading the book Gutless Neglect: America's Biggest Money Crisis I have to admit it was a shocker. It's a real eye opener into the manner in which our leaders have and are basterdising our Social Security funds. It's like the old shell game now you see it and now you don't and where it is, no one knows. Our leaders make enron and the other corporate thieves look like small potatoes. If this type of stealing was done in the private sector they would be behind bars. It makes me mad as hell to se what a mess our leaders have made of the Social Security system and what the future holds for our younger generations and the problems they will have to confront if we don't fix this now. None of our leaders ahve the guts or intestinal fortitude to tackle and confront this problem.Listening to the CD was really helpful as well. The question and answer dialog was concise and easy to understand. Our leaders need to get off their rear ends and do something now before it's too late. Time is running out...
I just turned the ripe old age of 59 1/2...

I just turned the ripe old age of 59 1/2 and also just finished the book Gutless Neglect by Dwight Drake. While I have planned like most of us, to take care of my retirement years through investments and savings, I was shocked at the revelations provided in this book. I never believed for one moment that the U.S. Government ws capable of providing any type of significant return on the dollars I've contributed to Social Security, but I have been under the allusion that perhaps if I lived long enough, I might be able to at least get my principle back. But reading Gutless Neglect I have found several very troubling issues:1. Our government leaders from both parties, told us that if they raised our taxes, which they have done over the past 20 plus years, that our Social Security System would be solvent. That in fact would be true, except those same poiticians, have "Borrowed and Spent" that money along the way to pay for other government programs; so there really aren't funds available to pay the retirement checks that are going to have to be written when the baby boomers leave the work force. Our Social Security System is bankrupt, we just haven't hit the date on the calendar yet! It will soon be coming.2. The financial impact of such irresponsibility of our government leaders threatens the economic livelihood of our families and our economy and it is time that we make our voices heard in Washington.I have spoken with friends and associates about these issues. But they each said, "what can we do about it?" Well, the time to act is now and I for one am ready to help spread the word so this gigantic problem can get fixed in order to secure the economic future for our republic, our future, ourselves.
Every Family in America...

Every family in America needs to know what's in this book. As a homemaker with two small children I thought Social Security was just about taking care of retired people - it's not. This book explains in a way anyone can understand how our Social Security system has become a way for politicians to steal and cheat hard working American families. I had no idea that the money we pay in Social Security isn't been saved for us - that its being spent by the government every year. I had no idea that last year more money was stolen from hard working American's Social Security savings than was paid in taxes by all corporations. I had no idea that this crisis has been going on for decades and everyone in Washington accepts it as standard operating procedure. I had no idea that other countries like Chile have faced a similar crisis and were able to fix it in a way our leaders won't even talk about. After learning what's in this book - I'm upset and afraid for myself, my parents and my children. If you care about this country in anyway and regardless of your political party - you need to read this book! Get it.
Can you handle the truth?

I loved this book. After being given a copy from a friend I couldn't put it down. I've listened to the audio CD that comes with it at least 15 times over and over in my car. What amazes me is how such an outright scandal can be so accepted by Presidents, Congressmen and Senators and how its not being talked about by anyone in our national political debate! I know there's a lot of crack-pot right wing and leftist liberal "chicken-littles" that love to scream the sky is falling and the world's coming to end - but that's not this book. Dwight Drake does a great job talking about the Social Security Crisis, why it's an issue for right now, how it affects every American's ability to earn, save, invest and support their family. In a time when so many of us are struggling to keep our jobs and make our payments its maddening to learn that most American's pay more in Social Security than they do in income taxes and its all being wasted - nothing is being saved for us. I especially found the evidence section (Part IV) very compelling. Anyone can tell stories but Mr. Drake backs up his claims with hard evidence that includes statements from the past Presidents going back to Roosevelt in 1935, warnings and budgets from the Congressional Budget Office and the office of the Social Security Trustee. The truth uncovered in this book scary. Social Security is a front for unfair taxes on low and middle income households in America to fund operating costs of the federal government. What's more frightening is that both Democrats and Republicans - every President since Nixon - every Politician is at fault. That's why no one is willing to talk about the issue - that's the Gutless Neglect. Don't believe me? Get this book - Get the hard non-partisan facts - Get the truth - if you can handle it.
