For those Americans who enjoyed the Horatio Hornblower novels, this one might be just for you. Young Lieutenant Andrew Hunter finds himself in a peticularly bad situation on the beginning of the American revolution. He is an American in the Royal Navy in Boston Harbor and the Revoultion has begun His alliegences are decided for him when a shot goes wrong, forcing him to flee to the American side rather than hang from a British gallows. Now he must cope with the distrust of his fellow colonials who suspect his loyalties as much as they value his skills while at the same time rebuild his life and in the process serve the cause of liberty. I really did enjoy this novel. It is a lot better than most novels written today. The story is believable. The character though very flawed islikable and easy to identify with. His story reflective of the values of the culture. His situation understandable. The author knows his subject and does not preach from the tip of his nose. Something that members of the self styled 'Creative Class' could learn from.
