Damned good read..

I'm a serious collector of Warhammer novels, both 40k and Fantasy, and can honestly say this one hit the spot for me..This was a damned good read, and left me hungry for some more..You could almost smell the Promethium and feel the grit in your teeth all the way through this one..

More Gunheads please!

Excellent book for the black library

This book is truly an excellent addition to the black library! I have read the majority of warhammer 40k books, and as most know everything is pretty much measured against Dan Abnett's series. But, after you have burnt through his series a lot of the 40k books don't always hold up. Gunheads is a rare exception. Focused on the imperial gaurd and a tank division they end up in a bad situation with a whole lot of orks. The story is excellently written and everything I can hope for in a 40k novel. There is some reference to Titans so reading Titanicus by Dan Abnett first is an excellent start. Lots of cool references and excellent story. This book is not to be missed. Steve Parker you rock!

Gunheads - The Beginning of a Great Imperial Guard Tale

One thing that has been definitely lacking in the Black Library genre is stories about the Imperial Guard. Gunheads is a great beginning from an author who could remedy this oversight. Gunheads focuses on a major initiative to retrieve a Commissar's tank from an ork-infested world - a tank that was abandoned when the Imperials lost the world to the greenskins 40 years earlier. I am always amazed at the dedication the Guard has to the Emperor, and am no less impressed by Parker's portrayal of a group of Cadian tankies. Led by a certifiable General, the Guard battles orks and the planet in the quest to find the tank. The story is fast-paced and action-packed and worth the read.

A Solid Warhammer 40K Novel

So many of the Warhammer 40K novels deal with the Space Marines. It is great to see a series of novels about the Imperial Guard in the 40K Universe. The latest in that series is Gunheads and is now my favorite. Steve Parker introduced Sergeant Wulfe in a short story called Mercy Run in the compilation titled Planetkill. We meet up with him in Gunheads several months after Mercy Run. If you are a fan of Warhammer 40K and the Imperial Guard I recommend this to you. Wulfe is an interesting character and is well developed in Gunheads. I liked the twist in the Mercy Run short story where a member of his crew is dying in the hospital and appears to Wulfe to save his life. That particular thread is missing in Gunheads and if Mr. Parker writes about Wulfe again I hope he can work that back into the story. Gunheads is full of Orks, tanks, bigger tanks and a really huge tank and should be fun for any Warhammer 40K fan.
