Gripping and heartwarming all at once

T.L. Higley's strong characterizations, fast-paced story action, and historical detail make GUARDIAN OF THE FLAME a gripping read. Late-B.C. Alexandria comes to life in all its culturally-rich glory, revealing aspects of the Egyptian, Greek, and Roman influences and events that shaped the ancient city. The story includes multifaceted characters, rich relationships, and plot twists that keep readers guessing and turning pages right to the end. Romantically-minded readers will enjoy the author's subtle touches of the Beauty and the Beast legend woven into the relationship between the two leads. If you are attracted by a story that entertains, holds your attention, gladdens your heart, and freshly proclaims the amazing love of God and His sovereignty over all the centuries, don't miss this read!

A true work of art!

Wonderful! Artfully written in the author's characteristic style, Guardian of the Flame is a masterpiece. Infused with mystery, romance, and spine-tingling action, this suspenseful book surpasses all of my high expectations. Guardian of the Flame is more than just another book; it's a true work of art. I was doubtful when I began reading, wondering secretly if this book could be as good as the others, but I was blown away by the vividness of the colors and the vibrant personalities that leapt out of the pages and captivated my mind. I would definitely read this book and recommend it to my friends!

Another great read from T. L Higley

This third volume in Higley's "Seven Wonders" series never disappoints. Once again, she has woven an engrossing story, with credible characters, and a well envisioned historical setting. All or most all of her books are preceded with a visit to the site of the story. For one who has never been out of the country, this additional research helps ice the cake. T. L. Higley writes novels that don't fit the neat, concise genre definitions. There's a historical novel, but there's usually a smidgen of romance in it, as well as plenty of drama. She explores the setting, politically, geographicly culturally. The cultural aspects include gender roles, master/slave roles, and the belief systems that are sometimes overlooked by writers who are are afraid to mention the topic. Her books are not preachy, religion is covered in thoughtful discourse by the characters in naturally occuring settings. Bottom line: T. L. Higley desrves the widest possible audience. Once you get started on her books, they are hard to put down. I'm so glad that I discovered her work.

Fantastic historical romance -- try a new setting and author

Guardian of the Flame by T.L. Higley is the third installment in the Seven Wonders series, and I had to restrain myself from reading it the moment in waltzed through the door. Step back in time to Alexandria, 48 B.C. The Romans are invading and Cleopatra and others struggle for who will maintain power. The Cleopatra thread was fun to read. But Sophia's tale gripped me. A woman who believed she was unlovable, she'd held herself aloft in the Alexandria lighthouse for years. Now events are forcing her to step out of the lighthouse and engage. Too bad one of those she's forced to engage with is Bellus, a Roman centurion. This story is a twist on Beauty and the Beast, but has such depth I couldn't put it down. And the historical details swept me away. I felt like I was in ancient Alexandria -- a place I wasn't sure I would have chosen until this talented author swept me there. A perfect story that leaves me eager for the next. If you like historicals, or haven't tried them for awhile, this one is the one to read next.

As the Keeper of the Light, she is responsible for keeping the light burning in the lighthouse. A woman of means, and great learning, Sophia takes pride in her position. Her family has been the Keepers of the Light for generations. Cleopatra, co-regent to the throne of Egypt, a student of languages at Sophia's knee, is playing with fire. More exactly she is giving her heart over to the Roman conqueror Julius Caesar Taking a gamble that will keep her as a ruler of Egypt, she sneaks into the castle of her upbringing and joins herself to Caesar The Roman Army is in the city of Alexandria, war is bound to break out as the Ptolemy's jostle and juggle for leadership of the nation of Egypt.
