Great book, easy reading and excellent drawings by the best artist working in ancient history to bring the legends alive. Connolly tells us the classic greek legends in a very simple way, and in the end of the book gives us the historical and archeological evidence that show us that greek mithology is based in the history of the ancient greek culture, called Mycenaean. I wish this book was on print again.
This children's book is good for grownups too!

Lets face it: Peter Connolly does great work, both as an illustrator / artist and a historian / anthropologist. This book includes many of the myths and stories from the Greek Classical period, with which we all become familiar as children. The difference between this book and others, is Connolly's realistic representation of the culture that developed the stories. His artwork is (as always) astounding! His portrayal of the monsters and heroes is wonderful. He gives easily understood translations of some of the very complex plotlines associated with popular mythological figures such as Hercules. Then, after telling the tales, he gives kids the opportunity to learn more, by going into historical detail about the archeological evidence from the time period. My kids love this book and I love it too, because it exposes them to a culture wholly different from our own in a fun way. I highly recommend this book for any child with a reading-level of third grade or higher. As I said, I enjoyed it too. Speaking from the perspective of an Anthropology hobbyist, it's a great book for the coffee table.
