I read this as a teenager in 1966...

... and so I took up graphology as a hobby. Many of de Sainte Colombe's handwriting examples were letters written to him with his address shown. So I wrote him a letter. I guess it was a novelty to him to receive a letter from a 16 year old high school student and football player from Atlanta, so he wrote back and we corresponded several times. The concepts of graphotherapy are now common in behavioral modification theory, as exercised in vastly different circumstances from modern business to Korean War prisoner "brainwashing." I apply the lessons learned from the techniques of connecting beliefs and personality to behavior often in sales, relationships, and self improvement. Behavior modification is quite a powerful tool, not limited to graphotherapy, but de Sainte Colombe was especially artful in describing the theory and how it can be applied through handwriting.

Graphotherapeutics

It is unfortunate that the paperback copies of this authors contribution are yellowing with time. The insight offered by De Saint Colombe's analysis is unparalleled. Though some theory regarding the author's assumptions of cure may be questionable, the technique of analysis he purports is truly effective. With his guide, I have had amazing results. My wish is that someone will reproduce the original book in a more effective format.

A Must for Self-Help, and Understanding Others

Psychologists, psychiatrists, and physicians in Europe have used Graphology and Graphotherapy to identify psychological limitations for over 50 years. Yet, when this book was first published in 1966, the effectiveness of these proven tools was virtually unrecognized by health care professionals in the United States. Paul de Sainte Colombe introduced to the United States Graphotherapy, via this book- with his clear explanation of how to make helpful use of the two way circuit between the writing hand and the subconscious mind. This book explains how to identify personality traits that are revealed in an individual's handwriting, and how particular traits can be modified through specific changes in the handwriting strokes that express them. Through the use of graphotherapy positive attributes such as power of concentration, self-confidence, generosity can be developed and strengthened and negative tendencies such as indecisiveness, dishonsty and hostility can be corrected or diminished.Paul de Sainte Colombe, one of the founders of Graphotherapy (tested at the Sorbonne from 1929-1931) based this guidebook on his 40 years of study in Psychology and Graphology coupled with long, practical experience.Rose Toomey, a student-now practicing Graphologist/Graphotherapist, has received approval of the Sainte Colombe trust to continue publishing their work.
