Helpful for Grandfathers to Introduce the Bible to Grandkids

This book is ideal for grandfathers and grandchildren of the Christian faith. The book raises and answers basic questions about Christianity in both common language, and through quoting the Bible. The words are inspirationally enhanced by Andrew Wyeth-like drawings of grandparents and grandchildren in contemporary situations and of Biblical scenes. "Grandpa, is there a heaven up so high/ A place to go when we will die?"After the grandfather answers, he explains that he knows, because the Bible tells him so. The answer about heaven is from Revelation 7:16-17.The other questions are about:whether it's all right to cry when someone dear to us must die? (John 11:35);why Jesus had to die (Ephesians 1:7-8);why Jesus arose so soon after dying (John 14:2-3);how does Jesus feel when we do bad things (Luke 15:10); anddo angels look over us (Psalms 91:11).The book ends with:"Grandpa, now I think I see/All that you've been teaching me.""And when I wonder, I can look/In the Bible -- it is God's book." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)Doctrinally, the material is pretty conservative. For example, Jesus will call and save those who both believe in Him and are baptized. Some Christian groups teach that baptism is not necessary, as long as faith exists. I only mention this point so that you can judge whether or not the book fits in with the religious views that your family has. For older children, grandpa can go on to explain more about the answers to these basic questions. I liked the way that the child is encouraged to seek her or his own answers in the Bible. That's a great way to lay a foundation for the importance of Sunday School and other Bible studies. But best of all, grandpa can ask his grandchildren what questions they have about religious issues, and can help the grandchildren to learn how to find the answers in the Bible. That discussion can lead to many great hours talking and thinking about God's purpose and our roles in fulfilling it. Seek spiritual guidance to follow the path God wishes you to pursue!

Grandpa Is There A Heaven? is a gentle, sensitive, very highly recommended picturebook for young readers ages 4 to 7, explaining the compassion and beauty of God's plan for His people through Jesus and how the Bible tells us that He is preparing a place for his people called Heaven. David Erickson's superbly crafted artwork wonderfully showcases Katherine Bohlmann's illuminating and inspiring text.
