"At the same time, those who heard had guidance in themselves: but this is righteous" (Theophylact). The apostle had the idea to provoke his own judgment of the Thessalonians, naturally arousing a sense of truth, common to all, and, thus, erecting in the minds and hearts of his readers a defender and a witness to the truth of retribution of the righteous. "Such judgments eliminate all doubt, because they themselves knew that it was fair. For if this is true before people, especially before God "(Chrysostom)."Before God", with God, in His advice and decisions, if we take into account His essential properties, - God, Who has the Truth itself, Who sees both your sufferings, and your good patience for Himself, for His work on earth, the work of faith in Him and His Son, to which He Himself called you, Himself has helped your minds and hearts to accept it and now helps you to stand in it. Judge for yourself whether it is righteous for such a God to give you rejoicing, and to your enemies with torment?...I have taught, he says, a sound doctrine of salvation to you; have it in your mind and heart as a model, and preach the gospel according to it. "As painters do, so I drew you an image of virtue and everything pleasing to God," (St. Chrysostom).
