LOOOOVED IT!!

Kate Klein lives in a cookie-cutter suburban Connecticut town, with her beloved three kids and her mediocre husband..and she doesn't fit in. Where the supermoms here are thin, dressed to the nines, and completely perfect, she is still struggling with her weight and hiding behind oversized shirts and wrinkled cargo pants. Life seems idyllic for everyone but Kate--who is completely bored and missing her old life in Manhattan. But then supermom extraordinaire, Kitty Cavanaugh, is stabbed to death in her very own kitchen...and Kate discovers the body. Not satisfied with the efforts of the local authorities, Kate, with the assistance of best friend Janie the journalist and ex-flame Evan, launches her own investigation. Will Kate find the killer? Will Janie write her biggest story yet? What secrets lurk in Upchurch, Connecticut? And will Kate be able to dodge the advances of The One Who Got Away...the delectable Evan? Page-turning fun, women everywhere, especially mothers, will love this tale. Most will see themselves somewhere in the cast of characters. If nothing else, readers will laugh out loud..to the very last page. DYB

Not Goodnight for Ms. Weiner

Ah, how I love Jennifer Weiner. She is one of those writers who isn't ashamed to portray women as they really are; be they fat, thin, rich, poor, beautiful, plain, smart, ignorant, and on and on. She gives them such personality. They are so...believeable. I love this quote: Weiner recognizes that the real mysteries -- the ones without tidy "Murder, She Wrote" endings -- are why we marry whom we marry, why we stay with our spouses (and why they stay with us), whether we're raising our kids as well as we should, and why, in the grand scheme of things, any of it matters. These unknowables couldn't be in more competent, funny or empathetic hands than Weiner's. It really captures her perfectly; much better than any of my words could. Goodnight Nobody is being billed as Weiner's first mystery and I suppose it is a mystery, but it is a lot like her other novels as well. And it's damn funny. When another mother in the suburban sleepy town of Upchurch, (a little play on words here???) Connecticut is murdered, Kate Klein isn't going to stand by and let the police do their job. This bored, "accidental mother of three," decides she's going to take matters into her own hands. (The accidental part is hilarious). The only problem is finding the time what with playdates, carpools, and nursery school times getting in the way. I don't want to give away to much of this delightful story but this satire is enormously entertaining and highly recommended.

Need Closure!

I really enjoyed this book (obviously, since I read it in less than 2 days, and I'm a 4th year college student who doesn't have a ton of time!)! I recommend that if you're even thinking about getting this book, get it...it's great. But, like the previous reviewer, I really wish the last couple of loose ends had been wrapped up. Still a GREAT read, and I also hope that the loose ends mean that there's another book about Kate coming up :)

Lovable suburban sleuth

Jennifer Weiner has done it again with an entertaining tale of an all too human heroine. Life as a stay-at-home mom is challenging for Kate Klein, who can't compete with the neighborhood super-mommies. When one of them is murdered - and Kate finds the body - she is compelled to investigate the dead woman's past. Klein's best friend, Janie Segal, adds lively antics to the investigation. Kate also is conflicted by the reappearance of former flame Evan McKenna. Like Weiner's early novels, much of the book was very humorous. The only disappointment was that a few loose ends remained when the novel finished. I can only hope this means Kate's story will be continued in a sequel.
