This book is a collection of essays, most of which appeared in The Andar, Santa Cruz Magazine and the Anderson Valley Advertiser, in the mid 1990s divided into 3 parts: Labor, Land and Politics. They describe the political situation in Watsonville, California, a large vegetable producing community near San Francisco, where the interests of the migrant and other farm workers vie with those of the land holders, and the pressure on these groups to become part of the urban sprawl that surrounds them.
