The best cookbook for beginners

my wife bought this book before we got married in 1987. have used this book endless time for everything from direction on temps and use of subsitutes. great recipes. I looked at later editions but this one is the best. this is replacing the old one which i wore out.

Great addition to my collection

I love the vegetable part of this book. Tells you what spices and seasonings to use and IT IS A GAME CHANGER

Best cookbook ever!

Got this as a gift from my parents when I was 20. I begged for this specific book, because it so nicely explains how-to, length of time from start to finish, photos, and many tips, conversions, etc. Mine was lost this month during a move, I'm so glad to find this 1980 edition!

My First Cookbook

...and 35 years later still my go to among about a hundred plus others. I paid it out in installments back in the day from another vendor and have never regretted it. Trust me - it's a great cookbook.

Love This Cookbook!

I am a product of growing up in the 70s. As such, I don't think there's a better comfort foods cookbook published. It's my go-to slaw, salad, etc., book. The kids of today should definitely *not* defend themselves against the 70s. Dive right in! This cookbook will help you recreate all the sentimentality of the era, which was definitely tasty. Yum!

Compare 1980 ed with 2007 edition

I gave the 1980 ed away when I moved into assisted living, after using it 22 yrs. Assisted living didn't work out so I bought a condo, and needed another cookbook. I was happy to find a brand new edition but disappointed after I received it. The older edition has many more recipes, thinner paper and more interesting hint pages. If you don't have either book, and are "on the fence," get the old one. It will probably be cheaper. Most of the recipes I remember and wanted, from the old ed, are not included. Zbaglione, for instance.

Great 1st cookbook for newlyweds/first time cooks

I received this book many years ago from a friend. It not only tells you how to cook but how to buy, what to look for, whats in season. Most of all EVERYTHING has a picture. I made the chicken cordon bleu a few years ago and now when I make it I usually have to triple the recipe for everyone I know shows for dinner that night. Its a bit of a complicated recipe but once you get the hang of it (rolling the chicken and securing with toothpicks) it is worth every mouth watering bite. This is by far the best wedding gift or first cookbook! It even shows you how to hard boil an egg...............

My favorite cookbook

This book shows you how-to, how long it will take, what you will need, how many it will serve, and what it will look like in any easy, step by step process.Recipes included range from sandwiches to gourmet entree's and desserts. I made creme' brulee! I have two copies, one to browse and one to use. I highly recommend this book for the novice, the acclaimed chef and everyone in between.
