Good Christian Bitches

Read a so so review before I read the book....the review was wrong! Great read! Plot line easy to follow, characters developed well and the interaction of upper echelon perfectly described. I'll definately look for more Kim Gatlin's work. This was her first novel- outstanding!

An enticingly good read, recommended

Jesus said love thy neighbor. These women apparently didn't get the memo. "Good Christian Bitches" tells the story of Amanda Vaughn and her return home to her childhood home. A Christian town, her neighbors, jealous of her, begin to do very un-Christian things to make Amanda's life every increasingly more difficult. Taking a twist on what the general public thinks of the Christian woman, "Good Christian Bitches" is an enticingly good read, recommended.

I liked it

First off I have to mention that both the cover AND the title have caught my attention here! I think whoever did the marketing for this book did an excellent job (I like flashy covers). I am also a BIG fan of chick lit and thought this would be more chick lit oriented - its not. However, what I did find was a deliciously backstabbing, dishonest, funny and absolutely fun bunch of characters that I just LOVED to hate! There was not one particularly likeable person in the bunch, but that just added to my delight in reading this book. I was not reading Christian Bitches in order to 'get' something deep and meaningful out of it, I was reading for the pure enjoyment of reading something a little naughty and this book fit the bill perfectly. I like the way the author pulls no punches and tells it like it is. Its hard to believe that there are some 'real' women out there who act this way, but the author made it sound totally believeable. I loved the writing (I am not particularly offended by authors using slang or some light profanity in their writing) and actually, this book reminds me of the Jacqueline Susann type of books we use to see a while back - I always kind of wondered what happened to that genre, but now I get to read it again. If you want a fun, naughty read, this is the perfct book for you. Don't be put off by the title, religion and church really don't factor into the storyline all that much - did you really think it would with a title like Christian Bitches???? I loved this guilty pleasure!

The Reality of Fiction

When I was a teenager I worked in a service station and waited on the characters from "Good Christian Bitches". Twenty years later in a different city, I owned my service station and waited on the same characters from the book. Twenty years later in yet a third city, I am retired and I continue to cross paths with the same characters from the book. The title and the cover caught enough of my attention that I ordered the book. I was not expecting "War and Peace" and I did not get "War and Peace". What I did get however was a fun, light hearted easy read book with an underlying message. It is a page turner with lots of humor. The only problem I had with the book was that I got the book on Friday and was finished with it on Sunday. It certainly brightened up my weekend. I look forward to her next book

GCB's Lose in the End

This was a well written chronicle of how a small group of women in any town can become like a pack of wolves. The Longhorn Ball just happened to be the focus, but it could have been the Girl Scout Cookie Drive just as easily. I never thought it was going to be a life lesson. I enjoyed the fact that, in spite of all their bad intentions, the GCBs lost out in the end. Unfortunately, it's not always that way in real life. Congratulations to this new author for injecting humor into something so painful.
