Despite the excitement and confusion of her new life in America, thirteen-year-old Fagel can't forget the family she left behind in Russia. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I really liked this book as I feel it is a good relection of the immigrant experience. I thought the characters were very interesting. Especially the main character who presents her experience very personally but in a way that is also universal. I must disagree with the reviewer who felt that characters who appear at the beginning of the book don't get developed. Immigrants simply lose a lot (including people) by emmigrating and the book relects this. Don't get me wrong, I am REALLY glad that my grandparents came to America, but something is inevitably lost by leaving home and moving on. I think everyone can relate to that, even if they don't leave their homeland. We are all immigrants in some way and I think this book shows that experience in a compelling fashion.
