A Killer Book

The book The Gonif by Red Rudensky is a fabulous book. It was published in the 1970,but has a lot of content that pretends to the time period 1940- 1960. This is an auto biography. The theme of this book is that it is never too late to change. Red Rudensky, the protagonist, is placed in prison again. Since the age of 13, Red has been in and out of county and state jails. He has pulled numerous heists including a big one on a government owned factory. As he struggles in prison he tries to think of a way out. He tries squeezing into a box, going out of the printed press section, which was being sent to other government business. He was place upside down and almost bleeded to death. He also tries to escape through a coffin, but was caught in the morgue. Red soon comes to terms and realizes he is stuck and there is no way out. He now tries a new approach. He starts to make a conscience effort to change. He starts writing and reading. He expresses his thought and ideas through writing. He learns about history and languages through books and has a better understanding for how to write better. He soon becomes part of the Atlantis, a local newspaper. After months of improving on his writing, he gets bummed up to Manager of the Atlantis. Everything is looking up until he is transferred to another prison in which he had escape from before. Red has to learn to cope with his emotions when everything around him isn't helping. Will he change or is his visit on earth about to end. The conflict in this book is internal. It is red trying to change from a gangster life to a good citizen. I loved this book, but I am a little biased. Red Rudensky is my uncle's godfather. Red knew my grandfather and my grandfather is actually mention in the book. This book has a lot of description of his emotions, so it can get a little boring, but it is very interesting to see how a person in jail feels. Surprisingly they do have a lot of feeling everyday people have. This book keeps you on your feet. It teaches you to never judge a book by its cover. Everyone can change if you give them a chance. I gives this book 4 stars. I truly recommend it.
