One of the great leaders of Israel

Golda Meir was one of Israel's great modern leaders, and first woman Prime Minister. She grew up in Milwaukee ,Wisconsin and made Aliyah to Israel as a young girl. Her determination and strength, her great ability to work made a major contribution to building the state of Israel. One of her great moments was her visit to the Soviet Union which stirred Soviet Jewry to reawakening. She became Prime Minister late in her life, and when she was already ill. And there is a question as to whether she acted wisely during the Yom Kippur War especially in failing to order a preemptive attack against the Arab forces who opened the war. She was blunt , wise, tremendously loyal to those close to her, and one who totally identified with the historical struggle of the Jewish people, to return to its ancient homeland, and build a viable modern state there.
