To my surprise I read this through at one sitting, and I don't usually read novels, especially not action thrillers. But this grabs you and holds on throughout, not only because the suspense is so well paced, but because it has a ring of authenticity, communicating the sense of an exotic, alien culture. In that regard, it almost doesn't read like fiction, since Stern's ability to put you in the scene and to fill in the factual details shows a dazzling virtuousity.

Fun reading while becoming acquainted with a part of the world not neccessarily thought about on a daily basis. I enjoyed the medical refences that Dr Stern incorporated in his descriptions. I found the correlation to history and nonfiction to be a great combination.Good reading if you like adventure and history related intrique in a modern setting.

This book by Tom Stern is a masterpiece; a beautifully crafted romantic, exotic, adventure novel. I just couldn't put it down from start to finish. The novel opens up with an intensely dramatic life and death operating room scene and the pace picks up from there as Dr. Todd Ellison, in an Indiana Jones style adventure, searches the jungles of a remote island in the Philipines for the massive stores of gold bullion buried by the invading Japanese army during the frenetic dying days of WW2. I can't wait for the movie that is sure to follow.

Wow! The book kept getting better and better and ends with high action, heart-pounding excitement. It would make a great movie. The characters were interesting and the descriptions of the country, its people, and culture were excellent. I loved the book.

I loved this book. It's a truly exciting adventure, very clearly written with close attention to detail and an easy-to-read style. A constant crescendo right to the exhilarating finale. An incredible effort for a first novel.
