Guaranteed to improve your Christmas season attitude...

When I finished this wonderful book the day after Thanksgiving, I set my book and coffee cup down and felt energized about getting my house and life ready for some Christmas joy. I also realized that I had become a bit of a "Grumpy Scroogeyman" myself. Shopping, malls, traffic - Yuk. By contrast, this year I have found myself enjoying Christmas-related conversations and looking at mall-less ways to make this time special. Plus, I seemed to have dropped my dread-and-cynicism level several notches - Yay."God Rest Ye Grumpy Scroogeymen" has personality, with a feel that you are enjoying a conversation with good friends who are sharing intimate glimpses into their joys, challenges and experiences during this season. This book includes a wonderful section on Christmas history, family recipes to try, laugh-aloud humor and lots of practical but fun tips for enjoying the season with less stress. The authors, Laura Jensen Walker and Michael K. Walker, focus on celebrating and understanding Christmas and, most of all, the reason why we celebrate Christmas. They also illustrate that special and shared memories are what make the holiday season enjoyable and less stressful, so God rest ye merry gentlefolk.

A delightful book packed with ideas and gems to make merry!

When I picked up Laura Jensen Walker's new book, God Rest Ye Grumpy Scroogeymen, I already had a head start. She had just been the keynote speaker at our Writer's Weekend and so I was acquainted with her great wit and delightful story-telling style. This book proved to be more of the same - all wrapped up in the sweet subject of Christmas.Laura, a best-selling humor writer, has teamed up with her remarkably talented husband, Michael, who gave the reader wonderful tips on how to make THE best stocking ever, as well as heartfelt insights into his family's holiday traditions. Laura completed the picture of what makes Christmas ever so special in their household by offering touching traditions from her own family, memories, and favorite recipes, too. She and Michael show us how they have come to celebrate Christmas, treasure the time, and share it with others.Scroogeymen is a very dear book, funny, sweet, poignant, and charming. The Walkers have included an excellent list of the best Christmas CDs and DVDs as well as other tips and hints to make your Christmas bright. Anyone who wishes to learn new, meaningful ways to celebrate this blessed holiday - or to keep Christmas well, should buy and read God Rest Ye Grumpy Scroogeymen.

Tidings of Comfort and Joy! Joy! Joy!

I confess. With children now grown and out of the house, the thought of a pull-out-all-the-stops Christmas left me feeling like a scroogey-mom. Why bother? Why go to all the trouble? At least that's what I thought until I read Laura and Michael Walkers fabulous little book, God Rest Ye Merry Scroogeymen. This hilarious volume helped me remember what fun the holidays can be. This book's long on inspiration and do-able ideas, yet blessedly short on unrealistic, time-consuming, multi-step recipes and crafts. I found at least half a dozen new ideas I'll incorporate into my own holiday celebration this year. I highly recommend this joy-filled book.

A Great Christmas Read!

Let's face it: Come Christmastime, no matter how spiritual, fun-loving, or organized we are, there's probably a little "Scrooge" in all of us. Despite our best efforts, today'scommercialized Christmas chaos can often leave us with no room in our inn-dividual schedulesto celebrate the reason for the season or, worse yet, for those of us who really are grumpyGrinches, we find no room for Christmas in our already too-small hearts. Leave it to Christiancomedy Queen, Laura Jensen Walker, and her newly published co-author-Renaissance-Man-husband, Michael, to remove the "bah" from your humbug and just leave you hummingChristmas carols instead. God Rest Ye Grumpy Scroogeymen is a dickens of a good read withpersonal reflections, amusing true-life anecdotes, meaningful messages and quotations, tons ofHoliday tips, and a scrumptious recipe or two. I too married a man named Michael, whom fornearly thirty years I've also dubbed my Renaissance man; but Laura's Mike takes theChristmas fruitcake! This guy gives you fabulously creative sewing, craft, cooking, andstocking-stuffer ideas (just to name a few) that puts even Santa Claus to shame. And, together, with his wife, veteran author Laura, they give you enough Holiday cheer, chuckles, and charmto warm even the Scroogiest of hearts. Even though I loved this book, I still love fruitcake.Well, at least I think I do despite Laura's aversion to same. She is such a wonderful, colorfulwriter that her graphic description of this touted, traditional Christmas treat is enough to makeme consider not asking for seconds...or maybe even firsts! But I'll be the first to stand in linefor a second helping of whatever the new Walker-author team dishes out next! God will blessus every one when we read books by authors like the Walkers, whom He has blessed with suchcreative talent and incredible humor! -Lynn D. Rekindle that lost Christmas spirit !

I am sure that a lot of people will agree that the enthusiasm for Christmas can dwindle as one grows older. This book stops that process in it's tracks and rekindles the Christmas spirit. The combination of humorous and loving memories from Christmas times past, non-traditional celebration ideas and even a few recipes thrown in makes this a wonderfully inspiring gift for yourself or a friend.
