Interesting action/adventure manga with yaoi/BL hints - 4.5 stars

I really like this shounen-ai / BL from Satoru Ishihara (the creator of Kimi Shiruya - Dost Thou Know? (Yaoi)). "God of Dogs" has an interesting and involving adventure/action prisoner-gangster plot, and the only regret I had after I read is that it is only volume 1 ending with a mild cliffhanger. It's unclear to me when we'll see the concluding volume 2 in English (it was recently published in Japan in August this year). Hopefully, June (US publisher) will finish the series! Also, there's a prequel to God of Dog, "Charisma", four volumes published in Japan only (see comments to R.Parklane review). However, when I read God of Dogs, I didn't realize there is a prequel, and it did not prevent from enjoying the first volume. I personally found the book very action-packed, fast-paced and exciting but NOT confusing. (But of course, I'd really appreciate if I could read its prequel, Charisma, too... just because I'm very curious about all the characters at this point, so the more volumes the better...). The book does not have any explicit yaoi (m/m) content, but it has a very obvious homo-erotic subtext, thus I hope more will come in the next volume. Even if it doesn't, this is still an entertaining adventure book, and the prison escape scenes - as well as all the situations with all that Chinese mafia craziness - were just hilarious (and not necessarily in a comedic sense, though there were a number of comedic moments). I guess it's a great book for a BL AND Takashi Miike or Hong Kong action flicks fan, as it combines both genres. Regarding homoerotic subtext: I enjoyed all that unexpected "seduction" that one of Chinese mafia brothers shows to his captive, one of the main characters ("That went straight to my crotch...I totally want to [...] you right now"...etc). Overall, an entertaining manga, though not really a yaoi at this point, more of a gangster/prison-type story with some shounen-ai hints. To me, it was similar to Wild Adapter Volume 1 (v. 1) in its combination of BL with a more mainstream action genre.
