I loved reading this book and I thought the poems in it were a perfect blend. The opening ones are quick and funny, while the later ones are long and thoughtful. You start out with little gems that are like jokes turned into rhyming poetry. That's the first section. Then the second section gives you poetry about funny things that the author has done in her own life. Finally, the third section is longer poems about God and American heartland values. What I love most is that this book gives a true feeling of small town Midwestern life. It's a lifestyle that gets caricatured more often that it gets depicted realistically. In her poems, Swanson reminds us of simple joys and timeless values. I can never get too much of that. I found it as tasty as crops straight from the garden and as refreshing as lemonade on a hot summer day.
