God Alone Suffices is a book that everyone longing to deepen his/her relationship with God will want to read. The author "contextualizes" the "eternal" spirituality of John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, and Therese of Lisieux, making their teachings accessible to all who live in the 21st century. Our human tendency to create "illusory reliances" (material, psychological and spiritual), the ways in which we experience their breakdown in our lives, and steps that we can take to move toward making God our sole reliance are analyzed by the author in a readable but profound manner. A radical understanding of sin which reaches to the very depths of our being is maintained throughout, even as the author successfully encourages us never to lose hope. This book is a must for everyone!!
Truly an "Inspired GIft' for the hurt in our life today.

I read this book, God Alone Suffices, for the first time, during a period in my life where I was hurt and disappointed by many things and many people in my life. Most of our hurt in life today, is pain of the "heart". This pain stems from putting all of our credence in material things and more importantly in our human relationships. This can come from our obsession in this country with materialism, which causes us to overwork, excessively save, and having no time to enjoy the gifts God has given us. It can be our obsessions with our children, their education, their future, and the disappointments we bring upon ourselves when they don't turn out as we expect. It can be placing too much importance on our social lives, friendships, careers, and even our marriages. In this book, the author, in a clear loving manner, because of course Our God is a loving God, carefully unravels how to discern what is truly God's will in our life in regards to all these things, which is a part of our every day life. How God truly desires that we be loving and happy people, for this is the reason he created us, and that we learn to use the gifts, precisely as gifts, and not attribute our goodness to ourselves. And ultimately, to know that God loves us unconditionally, with all our faults, and that we were made to love eachother, in that same way that God loves us. I have given many copies of this book to co-workers, psychologists, priests, and most importantly family and friends. Many of which have said it was a life changing book for them. I recommend this book to anyone, for everyone will, in someway, see themselves somewhere in this book. This book is truly an inspired GIFT.

Burden easier, Yoke lighter

The message in the book, God Alone Suffices, is helping me to live my life more in the light of faith. Now I look at the various events in my life as God speaking to me, personally, lovingly. I no longer see God as a distant Authority that is removed from my day to day activities, but rather I see Him as Present in all activities of my day, speaking to me through these events. This book has shown me how nothing else matters but my relationship with God because, in the end, all else passes away. Knowing this now, I am more distant from how others perceive me or how I perceive myself! As the author points out, what counts more to me is that God loves me as I am, with ALL the truth about me. This awareness has lightened my yoke and eased my burden...just like Jesus said in the Gospel would happen for believing in Him! This book has helped me to have a renewed desire for the transforming union with Christ promised to me...so that one day it will no longer be me living, but Christ living in me, through me and for me! I am extremely grateful for this book.
God Alone Suffices Challenges Reader to a Radical Faith

God Alone Suffices brings the wonderful spirituality of St. Teresa of Avila, St.Therese of Lisieux, and others into the everyday life of the second millenium. Truth is truth and I found the challenge in this book to LIVE it. The author took me step by step through the obvious reliances in my life and then on to the very subtle ones, always reminding me that God should and must be my one true reliance. He also helped me accept that there is no point in living a life of illusions when the God who I claim to love and serve knows what is real about me. I finished the book deeply aware of the endless love and mercy of my God who accepts me as I am.
