interesting and informative series

Glaciers (Let's Read and Find Out) Nice map to show where on earth glaciers are found. We learn how they are formed and move and pick up rocks and dirt and carry them along. We learned about moraines. A drawing that supposedly show the glacier melting and water running under it and carrying ground up rocks etc but the picture is ambiguous. My boy asked about it and I had to kind of fake it. The other drawings are fabulous tho. The drawings are great. This one has a touch of mystery. We see on one page a person with dogsled mushing across the ice and snow. In the foreground are crevasses. My 5 year old and I discussed the cracks and the danger out side of reading the story. A few pages later the same person is pulling his dogs out of a fissure. They are hanging by their harnesses. What's funny is the story doesn't mention this activity going on and THAT makes it more interesting. The book mentions the ice stretching and cracking and that they may be thousands of feet deep however doesn't say how dangerous it can be to cross a glacier.
