Highly recommended for personal Catholic meditation, inspiration, and devotional shelves.

Written by ordained minister Christopher Levan, Give Us This Day: Lenten Reflections on Baking Bread and Discipleship is an anthology of meditations for every day of Lent, encouraging the reader to link faith ("our daily bread") with the day-to-day life in the modern world. Each of the forty holy days and Easter Sunday has a few pages devoted to it, with an opening prayer, a scriptural quotation, and insights for readers of all backgrounds into spiritual discipleship and what it means to be Christian. In addition, Give Us This Day features a number of recipes for bread, from French Baguettes to Sticky Buns to Croissants (An Excuse to Eat Butter) and No Fret Pancakes. "Guilt costs. There's a reason why priests say that confession is good for the soul. You will discover, first, that you are not alone... And second, that there is a miracle called absolution... You may think that this absolution is the get-out-of-guilt-free ticket. It's not. Rather, it is the affirmation that you are a dearly loved child of the earth. Nothing you do can alter that state. Even your atheism and scorn are not obstacles to the fact that the One who made this Universe loves you!" Highly recommended for personal Catholic meditation, inspiration, and devotional shelves.
