I just finished Girls on the Verge and I was completely blown away. Vida can write! My life is quite different from the lives of the girls portrayed yet I felt I was right there along with them. Vida manages to capture the amazing complexities of growing up as a girl today.

In Girls On The Verge, Ms. Vida delves into the complex issueof coming of age rituals of young women today. Her varied examples anddauntless uncover reporting make the subject matter delightfully readable. I would recommend this book to anyone but particularly women of any age as it provides real insight to the difficults of self-definition in an age of few meaningful rituals for women in the United States.

I have just recently finished the first chapter of Girls on the Verge and the content hits me right on. The first chapter is about sorority rush at UCLA and while I did not attened UCLA, I am a member of a national sorority. The contents of this chapter reflect EXACTLY what goes on during sorority rush. It was an exciting chapter and I look forward to the rest of the book!!
