A good read!

As I was reading Girl Talk...God Talk, a friend phoned to say that Diane, a mutual friend, wanted our prayers as her husband had emergency surgery. None of us knew Tom but we loved Diane, and added them to our prayers--because she IS our friend. Sometimes in a family crisis, praying is all you can do for someone. If your prayer experience has been more "grin and bear it" than joyful, this book will show you how to have more vitality in your conversations with God--in your life of prayers. Sally Miller wrote on her book's back cover: With God as your friend, you can share openly, laugh together, talk freely, feel completely at ease and receive grace and love. Does that sound as good to you as it does to me? Story after story the author tells how girlfriends have helped each other by being there, by bringing special gifts and by praying together. I like the very fitting quotes, the short prayer and the "Walking the Talk" that end each chapter. My favorite chapter was "Tell Me a Story" about two friends who love books--the smell and feel that says "read me." The questions for this chapter ask: Why do you like a certain books? Do you consider reading good books to be sacred? Did you feel more connected to God because of a book you read? Sally's stories are lovely, touching and so connecting. Through the girlfriend stories she made me think of the girlfriends I have who pray for me on days I need it badly and on ordinary days--and for them I am very blessed. Armchair Interviews says: Sally Miller does a very nice job of mixing the value of girlfriends and your prayer life together.
