The title of this review comes from the cover of Gilpin's Space. If there were a sequel to this book (and there could be one I'm unaware of), I'd snap it up in a second. I'm thrilled to have read this book, not that I understood everything it talked about, but it was a fun read with the expected twists and turns, and the ending is... well.. you read it and decide for yourself. I assure you, if you're a fan of Asimov, Sagan, Pohl, Simak, or any of the other greats who made scifi the serious genre it is today, you'll enjoy this book. Bretnor utilizes hard science ideas and facts alongside ancient native wisdom, combined with a Utopian ideal for a potential human future. Unfortunately, it can't happen on dear old Terra Mater, but instead people of "higher," more humanistic ideals, must flee the planet while war-mongers and power-hungry madmen take over the world. But enough of the plot. Tightly written, engrossing, page-turning reading for me. Oh, a lot of psychology too, which really is my bag. :)
