Excellent!

This book started off kind of slow for me. I don't like it when the writer leaves you in the dark as to what's going on. That's what happens in the first chapter. Characters are discribed, yet no names are given and no inkling of who or what they are about. By the second chapter though, I couldn't put this book down. A previous reviewer mentioned "Three Days of the Condor" and that about sums up the plot. A down-on-his-luck writer is hired to 'ghost' write a novel for a major publishing company. The book is supposed to be earth shattering, and so Carl Granville takes on the job. Then the bizarreness begins with the arrival of a courier. Not long after, people wind up dead and Carl is on the run accused of the killings. The plot twists are excellent. The character development was excellent. The story itself...you know, excellent. Can't recommend this book more!

An absolute cracker

A great thriller, that keeps you guessing. I'm looking forward to "Russell Andrews" writing more books. I'm usually a Tom Clancy / Dale Brown reader, and this was every bit as good as anything by those two. The characters have a wonderful depth, and even though you know who the bad guys are early on, it still keeps you guessing until the end. Straight into my top 5 all time books. Good work Peter Gethers and David Handler, or should I say Russell? The other reviews tell you what it's about so I won't bother. Instead I'll just say buy it, you won't regret it.

A NON-STOP,COMPULSIVE READ

Carl Granville is the writer hired to take the pages of an old diary and turn them into bestselling fiction. The identity of Gideon is a secret and all the names and locations in the diary are blacked out...Granville will be fed bits of information as the novel progresses. The deeper Carl becomes involved with this project, the closer he gets to danger, resulting in several deaths, information being stolen and his apartment ransacked. With Carl the main suspect in the murders, he must run for his life to prove his innocence and bring together the secrets and identity of Gideon. His race will bring him to need the help of ex-girlfiend, journalist, Amanda, and together the two will discover a chilling, cover-up."Gideon" is so fast-paced, you will be likely to finish it in one sitting. The novel does not give much information until the end, and what an ending it is! You will be guessing from the first page all the way to the end.Russell Andrews has written a novel that teases you with plot twists, and intricately twists and turns them to the shocking climax.A great summer read.A MUST read! This is a great book dealing with submarine warfare in the pacific during WW2. It has good information about captins and boats of particular fame. There is also a chapter on Japanese Submarines and their service. A good read.

Fast read == with a message

I bought this book based on a recommendation from a fellow booklover. She raved about it and hasn't steered me wrong yet, so I figured == here we go again, why not? This book grabbed me from Page 1 of the Prologue and kept me intrigued to the end. I really enjoy the authors' style, entwining flashbacks with in-the-moment scenes. And perhaps what was most enjoyable was the truly, of-the-moment, not-so-hidden, message beneath it all. I can't say "very 90's" anymore, but let me say it gave me pause. This is a book that keeps your attention, is written realistically without burdening you with fluff and an overabundance of adjectives and unrealistic dialogue, while keeping you involved. I highly recommend it and hope the author team follows up with another quality book of this style.
