Lots of fun

So when you read a good terror book you can say a)I liked the imagination of the author, b)I liked the characters, c)I liked the description of the grotesque scenes... z)I enjoyed the book immensely. I'll put this book in that category, just get your popcorn and your soda and read the book.

Coming of Age in a Terrifying Way

Ever since he penned "The Rising", a now legendary piece of zombie fiction, Brian Keene has been at the top of my must-read list. He's shown us in the past that he excels at writing post-apocalyptic horror on a grand scale. With "Ghoul", Keene manages to prove that he has far more talent in store for us. In the same way that King reminisced on youth with "It" and "The Body", here the author masterfully takes the reader back to 1984. To anyone who was a boy at this time, it will feel as if your memories have been poured out onto the page. Keene not only captures the culture of the era, but also tells it through the eyes of three vivid young boys who come to life as you read. Three boyhood friends. One summer that promises never to end. And a series of nightmares, both natural and supernatural in variety. This is a story that goes far beyond suspesnse and gore (although both appear in healthy doses), proving that sometimes the greatest horrors in life are the ones we live with every day. The abandonment of youth. The transition from boy to man. The horrors of secrets kept, and the scars they leave behind. Horror fans rejoice, for The King has found a worthy heir to the throne.

Second Only to TERMINAL

With TERMINAL, Keene grasped at something beyond the bounds of the horror genre. Now he brings those sensibilities to a horror novel. This is a clever homage to the 80's---from the setting and pop culture references to the opening prologue (which begins like the prologue to every 80's horror novel and then spins in a wildly different direction---something Keen is known for). Fans of IT, SUMMER OF NIGHT, MIDNIGHT RAIN, THE BODY, and BOYS LIFE will appreciate this book.

Monsters are real

Timmy and his friends face a turning point in their youth. During a summer when the friends have to face the evils of reality, a real monster lurks below the cemetary, feasting on the dead and yearning for the sweet taste of living flesh. 'Ghoul' grabs your attention from the very start and never lets go. Experience an innocent summer turn into a summer of fear, a summer of terror and a summer of knowing that monsters are real!

Another Sweet Victory

I loved the two book series Brian Keene did a few years back, and Ghoul has the same feel to it. . .almost. Look, if you like his other work you'll like this. My only arguement with Ghoul is that Edward Lee has a novel out from the 80's called Ghoul that has to do with a clan of ghouls in the suburbs. But if you don't know what I'm talking about that's fine. Bottom line: Brian Keene's work fills some of the holes left in the horror market today. If you like zombies and shadows in the night you'll like this.
