Poetry. An editor at Hanging Loose Press, GHOST RADIO is Dick Lourie seventh collection of poetry and perhaps his most successful, deftly bringing forth issues of race and music in a disarming and forthright style. Lourie is an accomplished musician playing tenor sax and trumpet for a variety of bands, and GHOST RADIO is as lively as the music he plays. Lourie's poetry has also appeared in a variety of magazines including Verse, Exquisite Corpse, The Massachusetts Review, ACM, Sun, and Ms. Magazine. "Dick Lourie's work has never failed to give me a keen sense of his integrity and individuality"--Denise Levertov.
You may "find" Dick Lourie's poetry, like I did, because of hearing his poem Forgiving Our Fathers in the movie, Smoke Signals, or through his association with Sherman Alexie, but, once you read Ghost Radio, you will forever appreciate Dick Lourie as his own persona. His poetry is intelligent, powerful, thoughtful, and emotional. This is a man who has lived studying our world, the mixed-bag of American culture and politics, and he paid great attention. He's got important things to say, and he says them beautifully. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. Since I can't, I buy it for friends.
Good Narrative and Lyric Poetry

Hey, you don't have to be a poetry reader to enjoy these great poems. Of course, you probably heard "Forgiving Our Fathers" at the end of Smoke Signals, but that is only the beginning. Many other father poems, lots of humor ("George Bush and Peter Pan" and "rest easy Bill Clinton"). Dare to read poetry. This guy will have you hooked in no time. All I have to say is thanks to Sherman Alexie for making sure I read Dick Lourie.

This movie brought out the most of beening what is really like when you grew up and it is a eye opener to the ones that never lived that life. But it was really exciting to see this movie making it out there. I hope to see more real movies like this come out again. I hope to meet sherman one day.
Forgiveness is heartrending.

I saw "Smoke Signals" about a month ago and have been searching for the poem about forgiving our fathers that long. The paradoxical lines were like drums. Each half of a line would impact and then the next half would thunder. It's worth the money to have the book for that poem. I find it very difficult to read poetry but I could relate to these sentiments. Thank you, Dick Lourie.
