A Credible Image of Shanghai

I want to first explain some special Chinese terms to Western readers:Lifu: formal suit; Gongchang: factory; Extra Kuai: extra income (kuai is the colloquil term of dollars) I think it is one of the masterpieces about Shanghai I have ever seen. When I read it, I just curious about how the authors knew so much about Shanghai in the past, and I believe it is not from their imagination, but from their hard information collection, profound life experience and marvellous writing techniques. That is why we can enjoy the vivid images of Shanghai that we did not see.
