This book has the same content as "I Am Your Hamster" (same author, different cover). This version is shaped like a hamster and may be more appealing to preschoolers and young children. However, it's best read by an adult and shared with a child. Written from the perspective of the hamster, it actually makes a pretty good read-aloud. There are many color photos, and the information is divided up into short chapters to make it easy to skip to particular sections (feeding, cages, etc.). The basic breeds are covered: Syrian, Russian Dwarf, and Chinese. There is a page where children can record information about a pet and paste in a photo (like a baby book). Another useful feature is a checklist of things children need to do to care for their pet on a regular basis. If you are looking for really in-depth information, this may not be the right book for you, but it's a good choice for children getting their first pet.
