The People of the Forest

This collection of photos from a bygone era is priceless. Gertrude Duby Blom's camera lens provides a glimpse into a vanished way of life. She witnessed the destruction of a habitat given over to cattle and degraded soil quality. Once the jungle habitat is gone, it is gone. The delicate balance of a people who sustained themselves in the jungle for centuries has been upset. Her legacy is a commitment to sustain the way of life for a people through keeping a habitat alive. The first to have a "vivero" or tree nursery in Chiapas, she was tireless in efforts to save her beloved highland and lowland Chiapas forests. The authors of the book, along with Barry Norris of Taos, NM, took her photos spanning her life time, cleaned them up and have produced a book for collectors.
