Great Dictionary

My wife and I had an exchange student from Austria stay wilth us for the summer and this dictionary help us communicate better with her.

Hmm, how to review a dictionary?

Well, we needed a basic German to English dictionary for high school German class and ended up accidentally picking up two different ones, this being one of them. One ended up at school, one ended up at home. Generally, most dictionaries are created equal, I suspect. As is usually the case with these smaller "pocket" dictionaries, the text is frustratingly small and easily smudged and generally not that comprehensive. It's a dictionary and not a primer, so you really can't expect to actually speak German from the dictionary. You could probably figure out how to ask for the bathroom or how to order a schnitzel or something. Well, it ended up working for my son's German I, II, and III purposes at home for homework, which probably meant it was used for all of two hours total. I'm pretty sure that's generally the purpose of these things though, so I can't give it a bad review. 23 years ago when I took French and had the French to English dictionary, I'm pretty sure I did the same thing. Anyway, it's a good dictionary for a....dictionary.

DAS IS GOOT

There is little to say about a "Dictionary" per say, but I recently ordered this one to go along with Joseph Rosenberg's, "German; How To Speak and Write It." I have already utilized Langenscheidt's German-English/English-German Distionary numerous times. The format and ease of looking up words is commendable. There are over 50,000 entries in this small book alone! If, your interested in the German language then I would highly recommned you do as I did. Order both Joseph Rosenberg's "German" book and add Langenscheidt's dictionary along with it. You won't be sorry!

This book needs two review categories

This is a very, very good dictionary for information and ease of use. I can find any word I need and it contains many example phrases. However, it has a very poor binding. My 5 star review is solely for the content. I'd give it a 1 for durability since the pages will begin to separate from the binding. If you use it everyday, plan to buy another copy within a year or two. Langenscheidt's needs to find a new manufacturer for this fine dictionary.
