Renowned historian W.L. Morton wrote the forward to this book, and he calls it "vivid, spirited and dramatic," and "very much a life of Cartier." He commends the research, and the insights, since the bulk of Cartier''s papers were burned. I enjoyed the book. It's a pity Canadians don't know more about this man who is one of the major founders of Canada and Quebec. McClelland & Stewart should reprint it.
