otaku power

comedy, love, and most of all anime. genshiken is pure bliss. the story of a group of otaku surviving college. there's a good mix of comedy and true emotions. if you don't fall in love, your no otaku. it's nice to see a story where you can laugh at it cause it reminds you of your self.

OGIUE DENIES HER OTAKUNESS

Ogiue is still the odd one out in the Genshiken club. Even Saki-san fits in better than her. It probably has to do with the fact that even though Ogiue is as much an otaku as the others, for some reason she hates to admit the fact to herself, and thereby transfers this anger to the Genshiken. But Ohno has an anger inside her too, or more a burning passion to make Ogiue admit to herself that she's just as much a nut as her. Gaining Saki's help, she sets about inducting her into cosplay for the school festival! Behind the other's back, Ogiue is even drawing and writing her own doujinshi for the next ComicFest, but the subject matter is a lot Yaoi, and stars Madarame and Sasahara! Speaking of Madarame, he's having a bit of trouble finding a job before he graduates and it makes you wonder how hard he's really trying and whether he really wants to leave his college life behind. Genshiken Volume 6 was another excellent entry in this great series focusing on manga and anime fans in Japan. The newest character, Ogiue, was centerstage here, and it really helped you get to know and like her. I'm still intrigued as to why she wants to hide the fact that she's otaku, lying to herself about what she really loves. Even so, this personality flaw of hers leads to some great comedy bits and makes her the perfect foil for Saki, whose own affection for Genshiken has changed her attitude, at least a bit, towards otakudom. One of the more charming chapters in this book focuses on a day that Madarame and Saki spend together just hanging out and maybe hints at a would-be romance...at least on Madarame's side. Excellent manga.
