Practical, enjoyable and life-changing little book!

I don't know any parents who really want to raise spoiled, self-centered children - but what can parents actually do to counter our me-first culture? This little book from two financial planners has some great ideas for parents to begin to teach the concept of giving at a very young age - and to make giving an intentional part of their lives, not just a once-a-year activity around the holidays. The book is filled with practical suggestions specifically for ages from three years old all the way into the teenage years as well as wonderful quotes about the importance of giving and various organizations and opportunities to give. And giving is much more than just a financial decision - O'Donnell and Baker recognize the need to give of a person's time and talents as well. The idea of this book is to help parents plan activities and opportunities to give to teach their children that giving truly is better than receiving! While the book is not explicitly Christian, the principles are consistent with biblical teachings on giving and this would make a wonderful gift for any parent. Practical, easy-to-read, enjoyable and life-changing - all that in a little book titled Generous Kids! The book is probably worth the money just for the final segment titled Seven Ways to Grow a Selfish Kid - far too many parents are making these mistakes and the results will be a self-centered, egotistical adult one day. Another book along this same vein is Dr. Robert Shaw's outstanding work titled The Epidemic: The Rot of American Culture, Absentee and Permissive Parenting, and the Resultant Plague of Joyless, Selfish Children. Shaw's book is not biblically-based, but it is worth the read for parents whose lives are too busy to raise their children with proper boundaries.

A Perfect Fit for Any Child

What a unique gift to provide to new or experienced parents! Generous Kids encourages adults to help children take an active role in society. I was most impressed by the suggestions for the 16-18 year olds.

Generous Kids

Such a simple book with a wealth of important information for teaching the habit of generosity to all aged children.

Much needed resource

I thought this book was well organized and informative. I would highly recommend it to any conscientious parent who is looking for advice on how to help their children become well-rounded adults.
