Wish I could put GenHex in the hands of every parent & pastor...

Before coming to Christ, I was a witch, and that after I was saved I founded ExWitch Ministries. A few years later, good friends founded Ancient Crossroads, and they now run both ministries. Although God has moved me on to other projects, EW & AC remain outstanding sister ministries and I highly recommend them. There were many times in the course of ministry that we desired a book we could put in the hands of Christians that would give them a primer on what Wicca is and what they should do about it. (In fact I set out to write such a book half a dozen times - I still have the drafts!) Well, it's finally been written! If there was one book I could put in the hands of every pastor and parent in America, it would be Generation Hex by Dillon Burroughs and Marla Alupoaicei. Generation Hex covers a lot of ground in a small, easy-to read book. While it's written for laymen, it possesses the depth that pastors will appreciate. The authors elaborate greatly on one central point: Witchcraft is no longer taboo.1 In fact, the occult pervades our culture - you can't turn on the television or send the kids to school without encountering it. Generation Hex covers the many places it can be seen and elaborates on the basics of Wiccan belief without going overboard on details. The authors seem to have gone to lengths to seek out Wiccans and record their beliefs in their own words. This book covers one bit of ground that surprised and delighted me - Harry Potter. Of course, the authors present concerns over the spiritual content, but they don't belabor the point. Nor do they blame HP for ALL teenage conversions to paganism. In addition to raising the spiritual concerns, they also point out that the language and violence make these books highly inappropriate for children. One thing I greatly appreciated about Generation Hex is that the authors are very gentle. Throughout the book, Wiccan beliefs are carefully contrasted with Biblical truth. Stereotypes are challenged. There's an entire chapter devoted to how Christians can reach out to Wiccans. Christians are admonished to remember that Wiccans are loving, caring, deeply spiritual people who should be treated with love and respect. Fabulous!

A Very Important Read

Generation Hex opened has my eyes to the number of individuals that have chosen Wicca as their religion. I work alone at home, and I am not around young people, and had no idea the number of youth that are exposed to and practicing Wicca. I know I am not alone in this. Thus, I am delighted that this book was written, so that more of us do become aware. I feel as if the book paints a good picture of Wicca, and why people may choose to practice Wicca. I am now better prepared to discuss Wicca with others, and why Wicca is not compatible with Christian doctrine. I feel as if the approach of "speaking the truth in love" is key. This is a great tool for parents, but also for anyone that wants to learn more about Wicca, in order to better share the gospel with others. I would be interested in learning even more details about Wicca...possibly in future books to come?

What you don't know could be important...

Generation Hex is divided into two sections. "What is Wicca?" and "What Should I Do About Wicca?" This books major focus is comparing Wicca to Christianity. Young people are drawn to this "religion." It is one of the fastest growing "religions" in America. "By the year 2012 it will be America's third largest religion." Generation Hex is well written and easy to understand. I believe it is important for all Christians to become more informed on this topic. Chapter 14 is probably the most important chapter in this book. I encourage all Christians to read this book.

Eye opening, but just an appetizer...

My five star rating may seem confusing when combined with my headline, but trust me...I mean both! "Generation Hex" does a marvelous job explaining the basic tenets of Wicca in a manner that any age can comprehend. The chapter 'In Gods And Godesses We Trust' is worth the read just by itself. While the authors take Harry Potter to task, they leave the door open in a non-judgmental way, which was refreshing. Plus, they urge parents to pre-read any secular (and even Christian, in my opinion) books they give their children. This is a regular practice of mine, and it opens doors for discussions that bless my soul and deepen the faith and understanding of my children. BUT, we must not stop with just this book. Marla and Dillon swing open a door to a belief system we truly MUST understand in this age of spiritual curiosity and heightened interest in the spiritual realm. I encourage you to dive deeper by using their reference list, but choose books from a godly perspective, PLEASE! With many more to choose from than ever before, we need to take advantage of this valuable knowledge. Marla and Dillon have merely scratched the surface, but they have mined up some jewels for us to chew on and their compassion for those caught up in this deceptive system of belief is to be highly admired and imitated as they imitate Christ. DO NOT MISS THIS BOOK, but DON'T STOP WITH THIS ONE. Learn, love, pray, and preach in the power of the Holy Spirit of the One True God and His Beloved Son whom He sacrifice on our behalf. Happy Reading! Deena

Generation Hex - A MUST Read

There is an old saying, "People are hurt more by things that they don't know than things they know." This book, "Generation Hex," was written to inform people about the dangers of the religion, Wicca. In this book I learned: 1) Wicca is the fasting growing religion in America. 2) About two thirds of Wiccans are female. 3) Wicca is a form of witchcraft, a pagan, earth-based religion. Wicca centers on the protection and worship of the God, the Goddess, and nature. 4) In 1986, "The Church of Wicca" was officially declared a religion by a U.S. Federal Appeals Court. Wiccan holidays and practices now have legal protection in the U.S. and other countries. 5) Wicca is an "easy" religion. The sinful nature of mankind is not addressed. Wiccans do not believe in Satan or hell. Consequently there is no emphasis on repentance. 6) Wiccans belive that both the God and the Goddess possess a dark side, in contrast with the God of the Bible. I John 1:5 states: "God is light, and there is no darkness in Him." 7) The true Biblical principles of salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ are disregarded. The basis of God's relationship with mankind, as stated in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life," is ignored by Wiccans. 8) However, Dillon Burroughs and Marla Alupoaicei, authors of Generation Hex, are adamant to stress that God loves Wiccans. It's always His plan that people turn their hearts to Him, and that no one will perish spiritually. This book is a must-read. Every parent with a child over the age of 8 needs to read this book. Every teenager needs to read this book. Be informed about the subtle dangers of Wicca by reading Generation Hex.
