A lovely fable

Although this purports to be the record of an actual encounter with a feral child, it is more likely to be an inspired invention. In any event, it is a beautiful dream of a book, with haunting illustrations of the desert; its melancholy tone, and its elegiac questioning of what it means to be human, will certainly linger in the reader's memory.
