It took me a few attempts at reading this book to finally get through it, but now I am filled with new thoughts and a new frame of reference for lots of different issues. Lars is engaging and sometimes intellectually challenging, but not overbearing. His personal anecdotes and love of his subject bring a balance to the fine-tuned arguements. If you have ever felt that you know there is something wrong with an argument or a political stance, but you don't know exactly what, Lars will let you know in detail what the "something" is. It is a wonderful feeling to be relieved of those lingering doubts. His knowledge and perspective on traditional homosexuality in Africa is refreshing and a highpoint of the book. His story is pretty good too.
