Most of the children growing up in our gated farm community do not look forward to farming as their long-term career goal. When my dad, Neil Fortun, was a child, he had a vision he would live on the farm his whole life, and he hasn't moved off the property. Dad, however, is involved in several businesses in addition to farming. My brother, Johnny, worked the farm when he was young, just as the rest of us did, and then he built a mortgage business that provides stressed families with an opportunity to cure their potential foreclosure situations. My mom, Beth, teaches history at our church school and loves living in our caring and close community.I Cindy Fortun, enjoy working for Johnny in the complex mortgage business and look forward to similar kinds of work in our farm community or outside it---That is, if it involves solving problems and helping people. I don't want my career to end up being just about making money.I recently graduated from college, as have my close friends Nick, Barry, and Richard. We grew up together on the farm and enjoyed working and having fun together, but I don't think we will work together much longer. The time I spent during high school and college working for Johnny helped me focus on the type of work I enjoy. My intent is to continue working for Johnny, but I think things are headed for a big change. Dad has asked me to meet with him for breakfast to discuss some help he feels he needs in his businesses. This is a fictional story but not far from the real--life stories of some Christian women graduating from college today. They have a choice: follow God's plan for their lives or strike out on their own without His guidance. We hope you see yourself somewhere in this extended family and realize the importance of knowing Jesus as your Savior and willingly letting Him direct your steps.
