A distillation of the philosophy of gardening

The cynic will tell the avid gardener that since they could buy their vegetables with less money than they spend on their garden, why commit all that time and effort. This remark will cause the gardener to sigh, realize that the cynic is an unconverted realist and say something like, "If you have to ask, you are never going to know." Gardening is a form of activist meditation, where you get to eat the results. Done properly, a garden raised tomato or cucumber eaten in the field where the juice runs down your chin is a gourmet delight. As a former mega-gardener, I understand and have practiced the philosophy that is captured in this book. The quotes are an attempt to explain to non-gardeners why gardening is an act of passion disguised as sweat and dirt. In this case, it largely works and even the uninitiated will learn a bit about the joy of raising and eating your own produce.

A Fun Read

I love this book. The quotations range from the serious to the hilarious. If you're a gardener, you've got to have it.
