This groundbreaking new book is a complete introduction to Go and is designed for newcomers to the game as well as all those who have already discovered its many delights. This description may be from another edition of this product.
If you're just starting to play Go, or have never picked up Go stone before, this book is a great place to start. He breaks down the rules (there aren't too many), and helps you understand the basics. However, if you've been playing for a few months, this may not be too much help if you're looking to advance your knowledge. 3/4 of the book is based on playing on a small, 9x9 board. He does a few examples on the large 19x19 board near the end, but they aren't very in depth. Novice and more advanced players should look to Janice Kim's books. This book, while great for those just starting out, is very basic.

When I read this book, I was a complete beginner. I mean I didn't know what the hell I was doing when I played a game. This book teaches you the basics of the game. The rules and so forth. At the end of the book there is a game played by pro players with commentary. There is also a brief history of go.Now, if you think you've got the basics down, then this book is not for you. If you're a complete beginner like I was, then this book will be very helpfull.
