This is a great book! I love the "Funky Winkerbean" comic strip and wish they would publish more books like this! I also like this book because the strip has changed since then - jumped nearly 20 years into the future - and it's neat to look back at once was! I recommend this book for any Funky Winkerbean fan! Here's to more published Funky Winkerbean!
The stuff of life done better than most

Unlike many daily comic writers, Tom Bautik deals with life head-on, dealing with both the real issues we all face and the absurdity of our humanity. My favorite strip is Crankshaft, which Bautik writes with Chuck Ayers, mostly because I relate well to Crank. However, Funky Witherbean runs a close second, topping even some of my long time favorites such as Ballard Street, B.C. and the almost forgotten Rick O'Shay. Being an illustrator and book designer myself, I particularly admire the wonderfully simple way Bautik draws his characters, and the fact that the story sequences never get old. Well worth the price and delightful to read again.
Funky and the gang have grown up

Funky Winkerbean was a funny comic strip about a bunch of high schoolers. The cast of characters was a nice mix (although sometimes stereotypical) of students and teachers who could always bring out at least a chuckle from the reader. Tom Batiuk did what few others ever did, he transported the gang (or most of it) into the future. Winkerbean and his pals are all grown up now, but the humor remains. It is interesting to see the development of the characters. They have matured, yet still maintain many of the same qualities they had as teens. All of this makes for a funny book, often even hilarious.
