This text originates from a series of lectures given by the authors. It is aimed primarily at first- and second-year biology students starting courses in mycology or microbiology in which the study of fungi is a significant component. It is also relevant for those biochemists, geneticists and molecular biologists starting research on fungi without the benefit of formal training in mycology.
I needed a good dense book on fungi for my graduate studies that would prepare me for what I'm about to get into. While this book doesn't cover precisely what I need, it does give me a LOT of background I would not have had otherwise. It's few pages are quite dense with information, and easy to get buried in. It is not easy to wade through, but a good start for me.
