Book Overview

A moving story of the power of love and the miracles of life--chock full of Southern wit, sass, and charm Grace is an intelligent, (struggling-to-be) independent 31-year-old single woman living (in sin!) with the man she'd marry if they both weren't so commitment phobic. Michael is a doctor and a scientist and Grace has a good idea that he's also an atheist. Over the years, this dutiful Catholic girl has become ambivalent about her faith. But her...

Different for Frank's but Good!

This was a little different then Frank's other books. To me, it seemed a lot more serious with a lot of religious undertones. She also did not describe the areas in SC near as well as she did in her other books. THis was the only book by Frank's I hadn't read. It was a good book though, just not typical Frank's. I would definitley suggest reading!

Great Book

This book was recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad I read it. I found myself actually laughing outloud at the main character and her family. It's about a single Italian woman who meets the love of her life who just happens to be Irish and a non believer. According to her family, who are strict Catholics, it couldn't get much worse! You will fall in love with her and her family and witness a "miracle" at the conclusion. It's light, entertaining and a good read.

A wonderful story from a much-loved author

I relish in the Italian flare that Dorothea Benton Frank puts into her novels. As an Italian-American, there was so much about the Russo family that resonated with me! Some of my quirky relatives came alive off the pages of this story! And as a catechist in the Catholic church, I found the struggles with one's faith to be brilliantly and realistically presented. Like Michael, the medical professional in me often finds difficulty balancing my scientific training with my religious beliefs. I adore this author because she masterfully writes with a casual and conversational style that draws the reader into the setting, making the characters feel like family/friends into whose situations we become absorbed. This didn't feel like a heavy-hearted book, despite the seriousness of the issues discussed. I'm mightly glad I bought this book without reading the reviews here, because I can't believe that those who so harshly criticized the story read the same book as I did. I thought this was an outstanding story!

Full of Grace

Qite different from Ms. Frank's other books, but just as enjoyable. I enjoyed the characters and the flow of the story.

Full of Grace

We have Grace, who's family is Italian and devoted Catholics. Grace is living in a place that is paid for by her parents. However, she is living with a man, and they are not married. Michael let's just say has issues with church and believing. However when Michael is diagnosed with brain cancer everything changes. Are miracles real? Should we have to give up science in order to follow what the church says? This book was an outstanding book. I loved the family life and I loved all the food descriptions and traveling. This was my first book by Ms. Frank, but it won't be my last. It caught my attention and I couldn't put it down until I found out how Michael was if they were going to ever marry!
