A raccoon to remember, indeed

Harriet E. Weaver was primarily a park ranger, not an author. Still, her account of life with Frosty, a baby raccoon she rescued in a California park after the death of its mother is a memorable work. In the 1974 work, the late author describes how the young raccoon would follow her, mimic her by banging on her typewriter's keys, and cover its eyes with its paws when she would scold it, usually for throwing things around the house. Raccoons are smart animals, and it's clear that Frosty was one of the smartest. Weaver knew she would have to release the animal eventually, and her description of saying goodbye to the young raccoon is heartfelt. This would be a good book for children, but is not at all lost on adults, particularly those who love animals. Clearly, Weaver loved the mischievous Frosty, and that goodbye could not have been easy. It's a hard book to say goodbye to, as well.

A really good book.

What a nice book! From beginning to end, this book is a delight. The author is very good at describing the actual antics of an adorable raccoon in a way that is interesting and engaging. This a perfect book to read aloud to adults and children of all ages past 2 or 3 years old. I cannot think of anyone who would not enjoy it thoroughly.

Frosty

My son read this book when he was 10. At the time we lived in Carmel, California. He loved the book so much that I had to read it, too. We even drove to Big Basin to see where Frosty had lived. I bought this book to give to my son for his 42nd birthday this spring. He loved the book when he was a kid, and I'm sure he'll love it all over again. Written by the park ranger who raised him, Frosty is the story of an orphaned raccoon in the 1960's redwood forest near Santa Cruz, California. It takes place in very special area at a wonderful time on the planet. A good book for nature lovers of all ages.

Too Funny to Forget!

I remember my mom reading this book outloud in the car on long road trips. It was so hysterical we would all be laughing uncontrollably! I wonder how my Dad managed to drive safely? Highly recommended book for adults and children. The type of book that kids too young to read it for themselves will enjoy hearing read to them. What good memories and giggles this book evokes!

Favorite Book

I first read this book around age 12 and it was my all time favorite. Frosty was absolutely adorable and comical. I now bought the book again to share with kids of my friends.
