Hilarious, Cutting Satire

This monologue is Verdecchia's hilarious yet incisive account of a life on the border--not just a geographical border, but the metaphysical frontera that exists for those who try to straddle two cultures, two identities, two languages. In his case, we catch a glimpse of the Argentinian-Canadian borderland, where (often racist) media stereotypes clash with and distort lived reality. We've used this one in intro. literature classes, and it's always a huge hit with students--accessible, clever, entertaining, highly thought-provoking, and a quick read. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in Chicano Studies,Ethnic and Cultural Studies, Multi-culturalism/tolerance issues, Comparative Literature, and satire.
