Honest, Interesting and a Totally Different Perspective
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 21 years ago
This is truly a fascinating book that can be enjoyed by all ages. Preston Bruce, a proud doorman of the White House, gives us a glimpse of the first families he served. His perspective is one of protection and service which is a nice difference from what we read about first families these days. A friend gave me the book because I had expressed interest in reading biographies and autobiographies of political figures. I was enthralled and often brought to tears reading of Bruce's devotion to each family (Eisenhowers, Kennedys, Johnsons, Nixons and Fords.) It is a perspective that few writers could give of First Family family lives. This book also gives the racial perspectives of the times during each tenure--very interesting perspectives again. This book should be read by all school-aged children so that they can see that our political folks are regular folks, too. After I read it, I read it aloud to my 80+ parents during a hospital stay--they thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a "quick read"--I read it traveling from Winnemucca, Nevada to Salmon, Idaho. Enjoy an entertaining and interesting book even if you are not politically inclined!
