I will admit that I had this book sitting on my bookshelf for a very long time. It's one of the signs of "faking it"...having a library full of great life-changing books that seem to never get read until one day something happens that compells you to blow off the dust from the book jacket and reach for some hope found within the pages. That was exactly what happened to me. Not wanting to admit I was experiencing a spiritual dryness in my life for many years, it was reading Connie's book that made me realize I had found someone who knew exactly what I was going through. I was not alone and like her, I didn't want to fake it any more. Connie's book has humour, has depth, and has the kind of insight that asks the reader to journey away from that place of dryness to once again come humbly before the Father and experience His Grace. Credible story of one woman's faith journey

Thanks to author Connie Cavanaugh for her transparency, which is why this book works better than many faith-walk books out there. She never flinches or holds back in telling how low she sunk while struggling through a desert of disbelief. And the amazing thing is that Connie describes the journey with her trademark wit and thigh-slapping humor so popular at conferences where she speaks to audiences spellbound by her intelligent and often hilarious storytelling. I'm awed and inspired when an author/speaker is able to convey such deep truths while making me alternately laugh and cry -- what a generous gift to her from the Lord who loved her even while she ran! What a relevant and real book

I actually picked this book up at a trade show, hoping to make the time go by while I waited for an interview. I was drawn in from the first paragraph. Before long I had read the first few chapters. This book shares Connie Cavanaugh's personal story of trying to fake her feelings during the dry times in her faith, only to discover that grace meant she didn't have to pretend. God's not afraid of honesty. Maybe others are. Maybe we are afraid to be real with ourselves, but finding grace means that we drop the facade and let God walk with us during the good and difficult seasons. Be Encouraged!

Everyone, at different times during their lives, will most likely experience a feeling of separation from God. But author Connie Cavanaugh believes that if we walk away from God, we'll never find the joy and peace we could have if we are honest with ourselves and listen to Him. Cavanaugh insists that if we do this, we will lose the wilderness wanderer that we've become and be filled with faith and God's grace.
